Why Showersave double-walled waste water heat recovery is the best choice
Choosing Showersave’s double-walled Waste Water Heat Recovery System (WWHRS) ensures a safe, compliant and efficient water system for developments.
Showersave’s WWHRS units are uniquely designed with a double-walled separation between waste and fresh water, meeting BS EN 1717 to prevent cross-contamination effectively and complying with UK Regulation 4.
A double-walled WWHRS provides essential protection against contamination by ensuring that heat recovery from waste water never compromises the quality of wholesome water.
Addressing compliance
BS EN 1717 is a vital standard that prevents contamination within water systems, detailing protective devices and procedures to safeguard public health. It categorises waste water from Category 1 (lowest risk) to Category 5 (highest risk).
In the UK, water passing through a waste water heat recovery system and directly entering a soil pipe will be classified at Category 5. Therefore, the fresh, wholesome, water in a WWHRS must be protected from contamination; a double wall separation is recognised in BSEN 1717 as providing this protection.
UK Regulation 4 of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations1999 (for England and Wales) is the regulation that all products connected to the UK water supply must comply with. Once shower wastewater enters the WWHRS, it becomes Fluid Category 5 (highest risk), because it’s connected to the soil pipe. This potentially exposes the WWHRS to harmful pathogens and contaminants.
This underscores the importance of robust measures to prevent any cross-contamination within building water systems.

Why choose Showersave double-walled WWHRS?
While single-walled WWHRS units are available, they often require additional installation components and plumbing for safe operation. This adds costs, increases maintenance needs and introduces a greater risk of failure and non-compliance with Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999.
Showersave’s double-walled systems, on the other hand, address Fluid Category 5 (highest risk) requirements and are UK Reg 4 certified by KIWA Watertec They are engineered and manufactured to provide the highest level of safety and efficiency ensuring compliance without these installation additional burdens.
